We’re absolutely thrilled to share that Hinnies has been awarded the Green Tourism Gold Award the highest accolade for sustainability in our industry.
This recognition means a huge amount to our team here in Whitley Bay. It reflects years of dedication, thoughtful choices, and a real passion for creating a neighbourhood restaurant that not only serves great food but also plays its part in protecting the environment.
The Green Tourism Gold Award is internationally recognised and only given to businesses that go above and beyond in reducing their environmental footprint while still delivering high-quality, meaningful experiences for guests. To receive this level of recognition is something we’re incredibly proud of.
At Hinnies, we’ve embraced a wide range of sustainable initiatives. We prioritise seasonal, locally sourced ingredients and avoid air-freighted goods wherever possible. We also benefit from our group’s investment in a fully electric refrigerated van, which transports fresh fish from North Shields Fish Market and local produce directly to our door, reducing emissions in the supply chain.
As our Operations Director, Ruth Terrington, puts it:
“Receiving the Green Tourism Gold Award is a proud moment for all of us at Hinnies. It shows that small, neighbourhood restaurants can make a big difference when it comes to sustainability. We’re committed to keeping up the momentum and continuing to look for ways to reduce our impact while celebrating the best of local food and hospitality.”
This award marks an important milestone for us but it’s also just the beginning. We’re committed to doing even more to tread lightly on the planet and to keep offering a warm, sustainable welcome here on the Whitley Bay coast.
